    Ethical Aspects of Animal Husbandry
    by Craig Terlson

A collection of short stories where the humour runs dark and the slipstream bubbles up.

...imagine if Raymond Carver called up George Saunders and Joe Lansdale, and they all went drinking with Neil Gaiman.

“… it's clear that Terlson is way ahead of the curve in terms of crafting an engaging premise that reaches for elevated territory and reinvents enduring archetypes of action and suspense.”  J. Schoenfelder

"Sometimes brutal, often demanding and always complex, this novel will repay the reader who likes their assumptions challenged and is happy to walk away from a book with minor questions unanswered but the big ones definitely dealt with! It’s likely to satisfy those who enjoy Hammet and/or Philip K Dick and who like their fiction very noir indeed."   Kay Sexton

"I love a novel that you can't put down, and this is one of them."  L. Cihlar

If you are a church goer, this vid will make you laugh, and maybe squirm. If you are not... I have no idea what you'll think.

Lansdale audio and the almost summer list

I have been getting my Lansdale fix lately through the wonder of audio. It turns out that most of the Hap and Leonard series have been turned into audio books with the amazing voice talents of Phil Gigante. As his name implies, this guy is a major Phil in the field (you thought I was going to say, giant, didn't you?).

Anyway this guy nails both Hap and Leonard's voice, as well as the female interest, and a rogues gallery of well... rogues. I thought these books couldn't get any better - I was wrong. I love working to audio books, though when I have my headphones on, those walking by my studio and hearing me chuckle to myself, or outright guffaw (!), might wonder on my sanity.

I've been working a lot, so my bedside summer list of books has not decreased. Still, hope springs eternal, and after I finish American Pastoral by Philip Roth, I have another Crumley book, Mexican Tree Duck, to finish. Then I need to get to that stack of Jonathon Lethem books that I keep buying and not reading, ditto the Barry Hannah books. Then there is the stack of books on the Emergent church and other current theological topics (I wonder what Joe R. would think of Rumble Tumble sitting next to A New Kind of Christianity on the shelf).

I really do need to take the summer off to read. And then maybe the fall, and next spring. I wonder if I could get a reading grant?

The Impostors - LIVE

Well if you live in Winnipeg and are looking for funny Friday - aren't we all looking for a funny Friday? - then go see The Impostors show.

My son and some friends are putting on a show of improv, sketch, short films and general frivolity. I've got some background info that it is going to be pretty damn funny.

Go and spend a few bucks - your constitution will thank-you.

Mixtape

For your Friday enjoyment - a beautiful little short film. I am amazed how much character comes through in just over two minutes.
