Slow, slow, slow
That's my description of my novel rewrite - not very profound, but there you have it. I do have things mapped out, and new chunks (and I think good chunks) have been added - while the flabby bits have been cut. Though I do not have butchering in my skill set, I am guessing this process is similar.
Part of the diffiiculty working on a long narrative (300 pages plus), is keeping the whole damn thing in your head. I recently came across a great piece of software that helps in this regard. It's called Scrivener - and I would highly recommend anyone working on a novel (or screenplay, long story, or 300 page haiku!) to take a look at it.
Rather than yak about all the features - go and try the free trial, take the tutorial, and tell me what you think. I am betting a Starbucks you will love it.
